Art Therapy Project for Satellite Babies
The Art Therapy Project is a 10 week pilot program that provides art and drawing activities to a group of "Satellite Babies" students. The goal of the program is to help students better understand their experiences and improve relationships.
Yoga for Youth Program
This program was started in the summer of 2016, when My Friends Place NY partnered with the Chinese American Planning Council (CPC) to host eight yoga and stress management workshops for 9th and 10th graders at New Utrecht High School. This program was made possible through a grant from Citizens Committee of NYC. This program continues in 2017.
This program aims to recruit high school students to increase their college readiness. Programs includes college essay writing assistance, college application assistance, college visits and volunteer opportunities, etc. Series of career exploration workshops takes place throughout the year where we invite young professions of various educational and career fields to speak to students about their college experiences as well choosing their Major. The goal of these workshops are to increase the youth's horizon about different possibilities of career fields in their future.
Children with Special Needs
We have a summer enrichment program fill with games, arts and crafts and music activities to enrich the youths' lives.
My Friends Place NY strives to promote education and awareness in the community through youth development programs, parenting workshops, mental health awareness and educational opportunities.
Popular workshop topics include Satellite Babies population, SHSAT, etc.
My Friends Place NY seeks community and corporate partnership to benefit the youths that we serve. We hope to foster volunteerism by creating engaging community activities and helping our youths gain vocational skills.
Ex: internships, park beautification projects, and other volunteer opportunities
Mentors (21+) will be matched to a youth (age 13-18) who currently resides in Brooklyn. Our youths need a friend who will be there to listen and provide guidance to them when they need the most during their youth years.
Mental Health Awareness Services
Provides mental health awareness workshops in the community to increase the communities awareness about common types of mental health condition related to children and youths.
My Friends Place NY can connect private mental health services to those who need it to work on life's challenging matters.
